Hotels in St Anton
Sankt Anton am Arlberg is one of the Alps’ most historic ski resorts, already well known in the 1930s when ski pioneer Hannes Schneider helped put the region on the global map. The 1969 Hollywood film Ski Racer, starring Robert Redford and Gene Hackman, further cemented St Anton’s reputation as a destination for serious skiers — and serious après-ski.
The pedestrianised main street, running between the railway crossing and the church, was once home to all of the resort’s original grand hotels. Properties such as the Hotel Post, Alte Post, Sport Hotel, Schwarzer Adler and St Antoner Hof remain centrally located and highly sought after today.
In 2000, the main east-west railway line between Austria and Switzerland was moved away from the village centre. The former railway land has since been redeveloped, making space for a new generation of modern hotels such as Anthony’s Life & Style Hotel and SkiHotel Galzig.

The residential areas of St Anton
St Anton streches nearly 3km from one end to the other, so choosing the right location for your preferred chalet or hotel should be considered carefully. We’re always happy to talk through the best option for your needs, but the guide below provides a helpful overview of the main residential areas.
Dengert, Stadle and Moos

Leaving the centre of St Anton and heading south-west towards St Christoph, the **Arlbergstrasse** climbs steadily uphill. Around 1.5km from the village centre- and 100–150 metres higher, lie the outlying areas of **Stadle, Dengert and Moos**. If you stay in one of these areas, transport is an important consideration. Some higher-end chalets include a private minibus service, but most guests rely on the free (though infrequent) public bus. Many ski hire shops allow overnight storage of skis and boots, making mornings easier and avoiding long walks in ski boots. In reality, however, après-ski often intervenes — and once the shops close, the walk uphill carrying skis can feel rather long. Chalets in the **Moos** area are the furthest from the centre but benefit from being within easy stumbling distance of the legendary **MooserWirt** and **Krazy Kanguruh** après-ski bars — a definite advantage after a lively afternoon.
Gastig and Oberdorf

The residential areas of **Gastig and Oberdorf** sit uphill in the same general direction as Stadle and Moos, but are accessed via the quieter **Alte Arlbergstrasse**, which runs roughly parallel to the main road. Public buses are again relied upon, but accommodation here enjoys elevated views across the valley towards **Rendl Mountain**. Oberdorf is close enough to the centre to walk to the lifts, though the uphill return after a long ski day can be testing.
St Anton Dorf and Nasserein

Heading east from the pedestrian centre, the road becomes the **Dorfstrasse**, leading through **St Anton Dorf** , recognisable by its onion-domed church, and on to **Nasserein**. While Nasserein is roughly the same distance from the centre as Stadle (around 1.5km), the flat valley floor makes walking far easier. Dorf accommodation is approximately a **6-minute walk** from both the main lifts and the Nasserein gondola, combining convenience with a quieter atmosphere. Once considered too far out to be desirable, Nasserein was transformed by the installation of a high-speed gondola linking directly to the Gampen mountain. With dedicated nursery slopes, ski-school facilities and the ability to ski back to the area at the end of the day, Nasserein has become one of the **most sought-after locations** in St Anton. Today it offers a wide mix of chalets and hotels and suits everyone from families with beginners to experienced skiers looking for quick access to the main ski area.
