Ortisei
Charming, lively resort in the Val Gardena with towering mountain scenery of the Dolomites
Ortisei resort guide - a general overview
Ortisei is a delightful valley town 9 kilometres from the better known Selva Val Gardena in Italy's world-famous Sella Ronda ski circuit. The resort is very upmarket and there are a wealth of high-end retail stores, shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. Most of the centre is paved and car-free which makes it a delightful resort in which to simply stroll about. The village escalator is useful to access the upper and lower levels of the resort centre and as the resort has developed on the south facing lower slopes of the valley there are panoramic views to be had at every turn.
The village is full of charm and character and is one of the most animated villages in the Dolomites. Arts and culture play an important part in the resort with woodcarving playing a big part in the local scene. After a day on the slopes, enjoy the resort's large number of shops or indulge in food and drink at the rustic Tyrolean style pizzerias and lively après-bars.
The local slopes of the Alpe di Suisi area are very gentle and perfect for beginners. This local ski area is extensive with wonderful views of the famous Sassolungo peak (3,183m) which dominates the skyline. Good skiers can take the Seceda gondola from the centre of resort and then the cable car to offer a long and very scenic decent from over 2,500m down to Santa Crsitina Valgardena (1,428m). From here it is easy to link into the main Selva Valgardena ski area and the famous Sella Ronda circuit.
Ortisei is a great resort for families and those looking for an all-round mountain experience.

Tubladel is a locals favourite due to its eclectic cuisine. Rosticceria Sotriffer offers a good selection Italian and Mediterranean specialities and is popular for its seafood. Pizzeria Turonda is a trendy spot while Terrazza is less glamourous but offers great pizza's at a reasonable price and Mauriz Keller is also a favourite of ours.
