Best chalet locations in Val d'Isere

There are three distinct residential areas in Val d'Isere where you will find luxury chalets and apartments and each has its pros and cons.

1. Centre of resort
It's an obvious point but the luxury chalets located in, or very close to, the centre of Val d'Isere give guests the easiest access to this famous resort's choice selection of shops, bars and restaurants. On the negative side you should be aware that the centre of resort is also busy and potentially noisy (especially in the peak weeks). That said most of the properties are set back from the main busy street (Avenue Olympique) and are therefore protected from resort revelry. The chalets of the 5-star Hotel La Mourra are a case in point being located at the quiet top end of the main high street.

2. Route de la Balme
The 'back road' of Val d'Isere runs almost parallel to the main Avenue Olympique but is much quieter and more residential in nature. This leads from the entrance of the resort (coming up from La Daille) and runs past the Hotel Barmes de L'Ours, the Henri Oreiller Conference Centre and the Centre Aquasportif to the base of the main lifts and the ski school meeting points. There has been quite a lot of development in recent years in area of the Chemin du Petit Alaska which is at the start of the Route de la Balme. On the plus properties here are in a secluded part of resort yet not far from the centre or the main lifts. However, many are built into the north easy facing steep shoulder of the Bellevarde Mountain and receive no afternoon sun as a result.

3. Le Joseray and Legettaz
Quite a few luxury chalets have been built in the southernmost area of resort on the other side of the tunnel. Chalets in Le Joseray and Legettaz (a little further from the resort centre) often have stunning views of the Face de Bellevarde slope, plenty of afternoon light and offer the possibility to ski back to the chalets from the Solaise Mountain, or ski from the chalets in the morning down the gentle slope to the base of the main lifts. Chalets located in these two areas are quiet being located away from the resort centre of Val d'Isere but it’s important to check there is a driver service on offer to make easy access to the shopping, restaurants and bars of Val d'Isere.
