Gressoney
Small and charming mountain ski village with access to the mighty Monterosa ski area
Gressoney resort guide - a general overview
This is the central resort of the mighty Monterosa ski domain - the 'Freeride Paradise'. Gressoney la Trinite is the main part of the resort with most of the hotels (the Dufour is of note here). The other residential centres of Gressoney are Orsia and Staffal (the latter with the lift link if you are doing the full region tour).
The whole area has some charm in an understated manner and intermediates will love the wide empty pistes and the long, long descents in all the valleys - there are 3 that make up the whole Monterosa area. However, there is a distinct lack of après ski scene, nightlife or any off-slope attractions. Ski holidays in Gressoney are recommended if you are looking for a quiet resort with plenty of snow sure skiing for intermediates.
Experts come and stay here for the wonderful, high altitude, off-piste terrain. Given the size of the area and the lack of skiers in the Monterosa fresh tracks can easily be made long after a snow fall. This is unheard of in places like Verbier, Val d'Isere and St Anton - the other expert skier meccas.

Restaurants
Gressoney Resort Restaurants
Giovanni's - bar / pizza restaurant underneath the hotel Nordend and close to the lift in Stafal is fun and very good value. Il Fienile, right next door is a smarter option offering good traditional Italian food. Trattoria Hirsch Stube in La Trinite, offers great food and is run by a lovely couple. Other recommedations are Ristorante Oberteil and Osteria Petit,
Gressoney Mountain Restaurants
Punta Jolanda just off the main system comes highly recommended. The fact is there are plenty of good mountain restaurants in Gressoney such as Morgenrot, Bedemie, Rifugio Gabiet, and 2727. Yu can expect excellent fare for very reasonable prices.
Gressoney Apres Ski
Apres-ski in resort is pretty tame. However, the bar-restaurant Giovanni's underneath the Nordend hotel has good music and decor. The Faure is best for draught beer.
Gressoney Nightlife
Nightlife tends to be focused around the restaurants and hotel bars in Gressoney.
