Voss Resort guide - a general overview
Voss Resort is one of Norway's premier ski resorts and is also home to world-renowned summer outdoor adventure activities such as kayaking, mountain biking and paragliding. Sitting at the north-east corner of the picturesque Vansvatnet Lake the views across the water to the surrounding mountains are spectacular.
Looking at a GDP per capita Norway proudly sits as the wealthiest country in the word. The nation's Oil Fund is huge (and growing) and is carefully managed by the government. As well as a well-developed private sector the revenues from the North Sea Oil have created a substantial welfare state. This is evident everywhere you look in Voss with modern lifts (over 12,000 skiers per hour uplift), smart municipal buildings and excellent resort amenities.
The ski area is not large by alpine standards but what it lacks in size it more than makes up in quality. The 'challenge trail' at Voss Resort is one of the longest in the country, with a total length of 3,600 metres and almost 900 metres of vertical drop. The ski runs are varied and interesting and for experts there are plenty of opportunities off piste. The skiing, however, is mostly suited to beginners and intermediates.
Although the days are not noticeably shorter this far north the sun does sit lower in the sky for the winter months in Norway. This gives an almost permanent sensation of sunset which is rather charming. There are plenty of activities off the slopes including an indoor sky diving experience at VossVind.
The transfer time from Bergen Airport is an easy 1.50 hour journey on roads that pass through some of Norway's most scenic mountain terrain.
The ski area of Myrkdalen is approximately 35km up the valley and this is also offered under the same Voss Resort ski pass. The ski area here gives an extra 20km of pistes but a much larger area of off-piste terrain on the wide open bowl terrain that it offers. There is a base resort with all the amenities you need and also a mid-station restaurant with lovely views from the south facing terrace.

Restaurants
Voss Resort Resort Restaurants
There are three hotels of note in Voss - the Scandic Voss, the Park Hotel and the Fleischer's Hotel and these offer the best dining experiences in the resort. The Scandic Voss is part of a chain of hotels in Norway and feels that way - large, efficient, clean and dependable. The breakfast is really very good (they are vying for the award of best hotel breakfast in Norway!) with lots and lots of choice and the dinners very tasty although not gourmet. If fine dining is your 'thing' then the Park Hotel delivers. Unassuming from the outside this smaller hotel offers lots of charms with an atmospheric bar and dining room. The food is genuinely good (the fish soup recipe has not changed in over 30 years and there is no reason that it won't carry on for another 30 - simply delicious). However, it is ALL about the wine list at the Park. Voted the world's best wine collection 2025 the hotel's cellars are jaw dropping to a wine aficionado. Connoisseurs flock from all corners of the world to sample the amazing collection which is mainly French Grand Crus from Burgundy and Bordeaux but with plenty of new world wines and fantastic vintages from Spain and Italy. Prices are kept very reasonable so if you want to indulge in a once in a lifetime viniculture experience there is no better restaurant to dine at. The Fleischer's Hotel was first established in 1834 but rebuilt in 1889 following a Swiss castle style complete with charming towers and gables. The hotel brims with charm and old-world atmosphere and the restaurant delivers in the same respect.
Voss Resort Mountain Restaurants
There is only one resort on-mountain restaurant and that is at the aptly named, Hangurstoppen centre, at the top of the main gondola. This is a large, modern two floor cafeteria style eaterie with huge panoramic windows giving expansive west facing views (magical sunset views). Also in the same building are a well-stocked ski hire store and the ski school (classes meet just outside). The service is efficient and friendly and the menu reasonably varied with everything from snacks through to three course dining.
Voss Resort Apres Ski
There are a few apres ski and late night bars in Voss. The Skrot Kafe & Bar is small and intimate and popular with the locals. Cocktails and a good selection of beers are served in a chilled vibe.
Voss Resort Nightlife
The Voss Rock Cafe is a much larger venue and offers more of a party scene - karaoke happens each Friday and there are also quizz nights and other fun events going on. The Voss Rock is also a restaurant serving tasty burgers and other bistro fare.
