Hotel Monterosa

" Our taxi driver was fantastic: he was collecting two families from Malpensa airport one of whom arrived on time with easyjet from Gatwick and the other who was delayed 5 hours! He and the other family waited patiently and never asked for a penny more than the original agreed price. The hotel staff/owners were extremely helpful and friendly. The ski guide was charming and knowledgeable. The ski hire shop were helpful and spoke broken English, very trusting (we didn't have to pay or leave a deposit etc until we left) but there were no scales so you had to know your weight! Alagna was like stepping back in time. The village was full of Italian families celebrating Easter we never heard English spoken. Simon (Alpine Answers) came highly recommended and was outstanding. Thank you. We had a wonderful holiday. "

" Generally the Monterosa is a lovely hotel - great location, good sized rooms and extremely friendly staff. However, it could benefit from some double glazing on the front of hotel as church bells are extremely loud and ring on the hour and half hour all through the night! Breakfast was limited but suffficient. Alagna is a lovely resort. Slightly limited ski area but has potential for great off piste if there had been more snow. Lifts a little slow but some excellent on-mountain restaurants. Hole-in-the-ground toilets in a few of the mountain restaurants were a little off-putting! "

" Thank you for suggesting and arranging our trip to Alagna. It was pretty perfect, great weather, completely empty on Friday and Monday and like a very slow day in Val d'Isere at the weekend (which the locals considered frantic). Alagna resort was charming - more beautiful than the highly developed French resorts we are used to. The Hotel Monterosa was charming too with a beautiful dining room and attentive owner. The rooms were functional (which is ok by us) but the bathrooms do need upgrading, which the owner told us is on the cards. The skiing is not for beginners but again was perfect for us, mostly Reds with a few Blacks and generally beautifully groomed pistes. The only disappointment was that the off-piste was rock hard, as the kids would have liked to do some ski mountaineering, which by all accounts is fantastic at this resort. We will just have to go back. "
