Chalet Wunderbar Lodge

The Wunderbar Lodge offers not only exceptional value for money but also just about the best position of any chalet in St Anton. Located at the foot of the piste Red No.1, which descends back to the resort centre from the Rendl Mountain, and opposite the main Rendl lift station - ski convenience doesn't come any better than this. For those guests who want to explore the centre of St Anton and everything it offers an easy walk of two minutes gets you to the tourist office and the start of the main pedestrianised high street. The Galzigbahn lift which accesses skiing on the other side of the valley is no more than 3 minutes' walk away (250 metres).

The Wunderbar Lodge is also one of a disappearing breed of properties in St Anton. This is a historical stand-alone chalet with pitched roof and painted shutter windows. The original wood-panelled stube is a welcoming sitting room and guests will also appreciate the separate kitchen, and also the separate dining room. This is alpine living in the way it was 50 years ago - long before the layout of open plan kitchen, dining and sitting room was even thought of.

There are four main Austrian twin bedrooms and a useful single room, together sleeping up to 9 guests. There are two separate shower rooms with wc on the upper floor so the chalet is not over endowed with bathing facilities. However, the value, location and charm more than make up for this.

The resort manager (who is English) lives full time in St Anton and knows the resort like the back of her hand. She is there to offer an in-resort concierge service which includes booking ski school or guides in advance, making lunchtime restaurant reservations, helping with lift passes, and equipment hire. The service is very personal (she only looks after one chalet) and highly efficient. There is even a pre-arrival supermarket shopping service on offer so you can stock the fridge with goodies before you even arrive in resort. The charge for this is a very reasonable at 10 euros plus the cost of goods purchased (when you spend less than 100 euros) or the cost of goods plus a 10% surcharge if you spend more than 100 euros.
