Fast forward to today and Mark Warner has grown into one of the most highly regarded independent tour operators in the UK winning a host of awards over the years for the perfect family short-haul holiday for both ski and summer holidays.
Mark Warner holidays were innovators, having introduced ski hosting in the 1970's and setting up their famous childcare programme in the 1980's. If you are travelling with children you can be confident that wherever you holiday with Mark Warner, their kids' clubs and evening childcare will leave every member of the family with memories to last a lifetime. A Mark Warner ski holiday is equally suited to solo-travellers due to single and sole occupancy bedrooms, couples and groups of friends. The sociable resorts are perfect for meeting like-minded people who share an enthusiasm for skiing and snow boarding.
As well as their market leading childcare run in-house by British qualified staff, they are best known for their snow-sure locations. Each of their chalet hotels is located in a premier, high altitude alpine ski resort providing fantastic snow conditions all season long. Their chalet hotels offer a friendly atmosphere and are staffed with an attentive team who take the time to get to know their guests.
For the 2017-18 winter ski season Mark Warner have 8 alpine properties including the delightful Chalet Loden in Meribel. They provide ski holidays for approximately 13,000 guests each winter.
As well as their winter ski holidays Mark Warner offer their range of summer beach clubs in the Med with supervised activities for younger children, teenagers and adults alike. If you like an active summer beach holiday with water skiing, wind surfing, dinghy sailing, mountain biking and tennis then the MW summer product would make a great choice - these are bookable through Alpine Answers.
Mark Warner also have commercial interests in property development. Their two principal resorts on offer are St Anton and Zell am See (both in Austria) where they have built two large self-catering developments.
Mark Warner ski holidays - comments from Alpine Answers
Given their popularity with families it is perhaps not surprising that they can charge reasonably high prices for their peak week holidays and still sell every bed they offer - in fact if you are travelling on a peak week and need to use the Mark Warner childcare services we recommend early booking to avoid disappointment. At other times of the season their prices can seem at odds with the quality of some of their properties. Their three flagship properties - the Chalet Hotels L'Ecrin and L'Aiguille Percee, and their Chalet Loden (sleeping 12) are justifiably popular and sell out early. However, their lesser chalet hotels are a step down in quality and are perhaps best left to book on a deal when their attractive pricing makes them undeniably good value. The Mark Warner staff are always friendly and engaging but apart from the key personnel in each property (the hotel manager and chef) their in-resort teams tend to be made up with young and relatively inexperienced gap-year or immediately post university boys and girls. The atmosphere in their chalet hotels is therefore informal and social. If you are looking for professional hospitality you would be best to book a proper hotel rather than a 'chalet hotel'.
